General Information
Nature Documentary hosted by Sir David Attenborough and published by BBC broadcasted as part of BBC Wildlife series in 2001 - English narration
Information
David Attenborough narrates a documentary about the bug-eyed praying mantis. It is a 25 million-year-old marvel of natural technology, programmed to kill. Mantids have been known to target snakes, frogs, lizards and even small birds and mammals. The art of ambush lies in camouflage. Different species resemble orchids, dead leaves and sticks, and if there's any doubt about their ferocity, this program confirms that the female eats the male during sex - and that losing his head can actually improve his performance.
